In this talk, I will discuss the testing of cash registers, all-in-one PCs, self-service kiosks (SSKs), and data collection terminals (DCTs).

We will examine the types of software bugs that arise from hardware errors and vice versa.

We will start with a brief historical overview to understand the development of hardware testing.

Thereafter, we will look at various types of hardware testing, including:

  • Vibration testing: How devices are tested for resistance to vibrations and mechanical stress.
  • Thermal chamber: Testing in extreme temperature conditions to ensure devices function correctly in any climate.
  • Battery testing: Assessing the longevity and safety of batteries.
  • Drop tests: Checking the durability of devices against drops and impacts.
  • Static testing: Ensuring devices are compatible with electrostatic discharge and protected against static electricity.
Finally, I will present the top 5 most common bugs that arise due to hardware issues.
