Welcome to the Team, or Testers are Not Allowed

The story of how testers initially worked in the QA department, acting as “external controllers over developers,” but later became “part of the development team.”

Challenges of a dedicated QA department

  • The manager becomes a “bottleneck” in task distribution and control.
  • Developers refuse to cooperate with testers.
  • Testers have lack knowledge and have no one to learn from.

Our solution was integrating testers into development teams and gradually adapting them. We organized a step-by-step transition of testers into development teams. The process wasn’t easy—we had to address resistance from both testers and developers, as well as managers, and tackle several organizational challenges.

This talk will be useful for:

  • Test leads responsible for organizing testing.
  • Testers who join development teams and want to build effective working relationships.
  • Team leaders who have recently added testers to their teams.
