Unconventional Use of Automated Tests as Geo-Distributed Monitoring

When running many geo-distributed servers in a production environment, each of which requires monitoring and quick failure response, standard metrics are often not enough. In such cases, automated tests can complement monitoring: after all, no matter how good a metric is, nothing is more reliable than an end-to-end test that follows the entire end user journey.

In this talk, I will share how and why we transformed automated tests into a monitoring system, along with technical details and lessons learned from overcoming the challenges we faced along the way.
