Platform to test and develop: The way from RAID to distributed storage featured with hot-swap and caches

  • 40 min

Sooner or later in the life of everyone who is responsible for hardware infrastructure for testing installations, a "degraded" period comes. You need to cross your fingers and wait until the replacement for the RAID mirror finishes synchronising and the server can be used in the regular operation mode. But when you want to get the storage with fully transparent hot-swap of disks - it turns out that the price for such hardware solution is too high.

But there is a software solution - we managed to build the distributed storage based on Virtuozzo Cloud Storage (aka PStorage) spending a relatively small amount of money.

In this talk, I will describe how this storage is organised, what benefits from it we have got when development and testing,  and how you should not handle it.
